The ruling one-year old People’s Democratic Alliance government in Nagaland under the leadership of Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio is dedicated to working for the people of the state, said Nagaland Minister for Housing and Mechanical, Tongpang Ozukum.
Addressing the inaugural function of the Tsüngremmung Mini Hornbill Festival 2019 at Imkongmeren Sports Complex here today, Ozukum added that the government has a vision for all round development of the state. Making his first public address after the recent minor reshuffle in the PDA ministry during which the Minister was stripped of the Department of Roads and Bridges from his portfolio, Ozukum did not make any seeming disgruntlement but instead declared the Chief Minister a visionary leader and sought the support and cooperation of the people to the PDA government.
Citing a number of pertinent issues, Ozukum said that solving the long pending Naga political issue was the most important issue at hand for the Nagas. While saying that an honourable solution to the issue was expected to be arrived at the earliest, Ozukum however cautioned that Naga people must remain united and that any solution would prove to be a bane and not a blessing if Nagas were not united.
Stating that Nagaland was a “consumer state,” the minister said that the government has a vision for making the state self-reliant and self-sufficient and to make the “Made in Nagaland” slogan a reality. To this end, he said that the Start Up Nagaland policy envisages propping up 500 startups in 5 years and that prospective entrepreneurs and groups would be aided by the government.
He also mentioned that the government has accepted the modalities recommended by the Abhishek Singh Committee to bring Dimapur district under the ILP regime and that it would be implemented at the earliest.
Ozukum also said that the state government has notified to make the Nagaland plastic free and commended the people of Mokokchung for taking proactive roles towards this end. He also encouraged the people of the district to make Mokokchung plastic free by October 2 of this year as envisaged.
Declaring the Tsüngremmung Mini Hornbill Festival 2019, Ozukum said that the government is encouraging the Mini Hornbill festivals in all districts not for carousing but for forging unity among the Naga tribes by exposing their respective tribal culture to each other as well as to promote entrepreneurs, SGHs, performers and artistes.
