Is the Naga public ready to forgive the past and work for a shared future?

Some of those who voted  YES had this to say:
•    Yes Nagas must forgive the past but must never forget the past. It is very important that Nagas should never forget the past, but learn from the past so that we do not repeat the mistakes again in future. But at the same time, Nagas must forgive the past because there is no future without forgiveness.
•    Yes, because it is by forgiving that one is forgiven.
•    We together can create the future.
•    this is the only option
•    Yes. During the Naga struggle for independence a lot of violations have been committed by all the parties involved. The Indian Army and the Burmese junta have been the main aggressors and have committed crimes that should be taken up by the international criminal court. At the same time, Naga national workers have also in course of defending the land and the people have also committed excesses on their own people. Many innocent lives have been cost. So all parties have been involved in one form or the other. The overground politicians have also been responsible for fomenting divisions and tribalisms among the people. They have given incorrect reports to the center and are the ones who are responsible for encouraging corruption in Nagaland. At the same time the public have been toying around with all of them. The public have pleased the govt, underground factions, state overground leaders and have not been truthful to anyone of them. All these stakeholders have abuse each other and have been abused in return. Nagas cannot go on like this. We have to put an end to this and work together for a future together.
•    Thats the only way to life!
•    Yes if U n I sincerely think tat we r brothers in the first place. Like I feel in the core of my heart in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ that I have forgiven everyone who has knowingly or by mistaken done wrong to me n I also want U to feel the same as I do. Amen.
•    yes, bcos this is the only way for the Nagas to be where we want it to be. need to come as one only then Nagas will be able to fight, sustain into this unfair politics of india. Come on nagas we are one.
•    Who can claim innocence. There is no body among the Nagas who has not committed something wrong. We have all done an act or the other which has violated someone. So forgiveness is the only way. We cannot be self-righteous about this. The bottom line is that no one is innocent and so we all need to forgive each other and work out what is best for the future of the Nagas.
•    Yes it is. Let not the devil entice any Naga and let not the Indians divide the Nagas any more to rule them Even if these forces do come let every Naga remain united as a true Naga till all our dreams are fulfilled.
•    All nagas want a better future and for this to happen we must realize that we need each other. Forgiveness is the way.
•    yes. without the mindset of forgive and forget ,we nagas will never move ahead and our dreams will soon be faded.
•    Without Which Where The Nagas Are Heading To....?
•    The last few decades of hate and revenge among the Nagas have only driven us further from each other and it has only destroyed us, while India mocks at us and continues to strengthen its grip on the Nagas. If Nagas want peace, we will have to forgive the past and prepare to work together for a shared future.
•    In this 21st century. No one nation or country can survive on their own. We all needs each other. Just look at the USA, which is supposed to be the most powerful country in the world. Their isolationist economic policy has left them near shambles and their economy has collapsed and will take them another 20 years to pick up. No one can afford to be on their own. For the Nagas, we have to reach out to each other and the world. Thoughts for revenge will only destroy us further. We need to start thinking about the future.
•    This is every ones dream to work unitedly to attain peace and development.
•    Most of us have heard many bad things about our national worker and also we cant deny the fact that there are few good things that has been rendered for the Naga people. Our national worker need to realized their mistakes from heart not just to driven Nagas using soft spoken words and sweet tongue for their individual interest. As a Nagas we love Nagas but if you ask somebody about our national worker or rather underground nobody would say i love them, i appreciate their existence instead the answer they give is "i hate them". A time has come for every Nagas to forgive and forget the past and work together as one. Our national worker, Hohos, Union, churches need to work on one goal and every Naga Individuals need to support to achieve the goal. Lets us all use this chance to come as one and make the most of it when we still have time. Kuknalim
•    All these division and separations are destroying the Nagas. Majority of the Nagas want reconciliation. Its just a handful of people who are responsible for all these divisions. In this time of reconciliation when Nagas to build a new and better future, there are some people who keep issuing statements in the press trying to create divisions. Naga people are not so stupid, because they know what is what.
•    They are ready. Some are not, but they are none other than fanatic or self-centered Nagas. So no need to worry about them.....
•    Enmities of pass will never be better for young generation. Working for same goal in different paths, which would gives only enmity. So, it's time to share one opinions.
•    Because what is gone is gone. We can do only a little to mend it the way we want but on the other side we've tones of hope for the future which is still yet to knock at our door.
•    Forgiving each other’s mistake is the only panacea for Nagas to a shared future with dignity and freedom
•    Yes, for those who want to keep the pace with the world. 50 years from now, i see a very different happier, wealthier and a developed Nagaland constructed by all of us.
•    While speaking of an age-old Naga political issue from (sic) the Naga public’s viewpoints, at this junction at a crucial time, where the future of nagas is at the crossroads, I guess, the spirit of forgiveness is indispensable to the on-going process of Naga reconciliation under the auspices of FNR paving the way to the honourable and permanent negotiated political settlement between the Naga UGs and GOI, as the Nagas steadfastly move on the journey of common hope and destiny, so whether the Naga public or UGs dwelling upon the past will lead to nowhere but keep us all going round in circle, with due respects to our unique naga history of freedom struggle. Make no mistake that the rock solid majority of the upcoming generation are peace-loving and forward looking in this brave new world and see the future of India as a country and the future of Nagaland as a state with special autonomous status which are intrinsically entwined with each other in reality now and forever.

Some of those who voted NO  had this to say:

• Not all are ready to forgive, some are still looking for revenge…the past has become a reminder to act rude and unforgivable..so my answer is No.
• The leaders are still selfish
• Because Nagas don't think about others. Their views are myopic and confined to their community.
• The public as a whole is happy that the past orgs are getting extinct. But cannot 4give their deeds.
• To hell with the past ppl...
• what have the past brought to nagas? Nothing but...struggles n more struggles.
• Those responsible for killings and involve in the mastermind of faction clashes and killings of innocent citizens, tax collection, extortion etc should be punished with the most severe punishment. They shud be brought to justice and given a trial. Even the Nazi criminals are caught now and punished. Public will/or should never forget or forgive the misdeeds and war crimes of this so called national workers. They will pay later even when we get independence or not.
•    There is no past nor future for Nagas. Im sorry.!!
•    The present dilemma is all the making of the past that our dear leaders have led. One cannot just 4get it.
•    Nagas are not realize their own sin full life, rather pointing others' fall. They don’t.
•    nothing has past. it is now beginning. Tell them not to do bad.
•    What future?  Is there any left?
•    This is no more the old days of biblical eras of 4give n 4get..Nagas will have to bear the brunt of all the undergrounding.
•    After all the hullabulla of freedom n Independence..Nagas have nothing to look forward to nor 4get the past.
•    Forget it..live the future Nothing will come up from the past. Ask the IMs And Ks n NNCs, etc etc.
•    Naga youths have nothing too cheer about nor look 4ward to the future. Let us live the present. And Stop dreaming.
•    We have learnt enuff to forget the past promises.
•    We all live once...let us not waste tym looking into the past and feeling warm...Our past have let us down..Ppl have been taken for ride all these 50yrs...NSCN..y do u think they r coming 2gether? They see..there is nothing coming out of their cries, so what the heck let us join forces..
•    Let the two NSCN group forget n 4give first,, then ppl will follow suit.
•    The only reason the groups r joining is ....No past, no present, so no future. Let us stop here and try a new venture.
•    What is the shared future Nagas vcan look 4ward to? Name it and Am IN.
•    The hell with the future...Nagas will rot here.
•    Where r all the like minded Naga leaders gone? Arre..no more freedom or what. Whom do we forgive? We r the only one s that created the mess....
•    Where in the world have u seen a cat and a dog forgetting n 4giving each other?
•    Lets be serious...Nagas will have no future even if we 4get n 4give..
•    Never. We will go ahead with our future but war crimes against innocent civilians by UGs and indians should be punished. We should never forget how this UGs and the indian armies had made our life miserable. They will be punished by the international court of justice even when we get independence. Though we forgive Our past, it should never be forgotten.

Some of those who voted OTHERS had this to say:

•    Naga people are struggling with this question. It is however time that we take the positive things from our past and leave behind the negative aspects of the past. How long will the past hold ransom the future. It is time for Nagas to move on and this can be done through forgiveness. Many people have this wrong notion that forgiveness is about forgetting. No, how can one forgive if ones forgets the past. It is only by remembering that the past is forgiven. Nagas have no one but each other and so the show must go on through forgiveness.
•    Not only underground factions are the cause of split. But tribalism has to be done away. Just a suggestion: To do this, someone must make campaign to all the tribes on the need of unity more or less like preachers.
•    We have this wrong notion of forgive and forget. But in reality, we can forgive but we cannot forget. Nagas sometimes are too naïve and we get our concepts wrong. So let us get our concepts right. There is no doubt that we need to forgive each other, but we should never forget.
