Naga public should spell our roadmap for solution: Kitovi

DIMAPUR, NOVEMBER 22 (MExN): GPRN/NSCN General Secretary N Kitovi Zhimomi has said that Naga public should spell out the road map for solution to the protracted Naga political problem, and not wait on the Naga political groups (Undergrounds) to bring solution.   “We will only be go between the people and the Government of India to hammer our solution” Zhimomi said adding, “In other words, we are merely postmen or dak runners” for the Naga people as it is ultimately the Naga people who are to decide their own future.

Speaking on the “Present Indo-Naga political situation” on the occasion of the 6th “Unification Day” of the GPRN/NSCN here at Khehoi camp, Kitovi said it would be a futile exercise if the Naga public only wait on the “Undergrounds” to bring solution to the Naga issue. He said that presently Nagas are at a crossroads and confused on what type of solution or “sovereignty” they want.

He sought the frank opinion of the people on whether solution should be within the boundaries of Nagaland or should include all Nagas living in different states. He also disclosed that Indian leaders had
told them that solution could have been more easier if it is confined only to the state of Nagaland and urged Naga militants not to be greedy to grab others’ lands.

Hitting out at the ongoing peace talks between the rival NSCN (I-M) and Government of India and speculations on imminent “solution” in the air, Kitovi accused NSCN (I-M) leader Th. Muivah of compromising the Naga issue by backtracking from the original demand of “sovereignty” to “integration” to present “alternative arrangement.” As for the GPRN/NSCN, Kitovi said that his group would first consult the people on what type of solution they want and then proceed on that line.

Later, addressing a press conference, the GPRN/NSCN General Secretary also said that there was no logic in the decision of the Joint legislature Forum (JLF) comprising all 60 elected members of Nagaland assembly to resign to pave the way for alternative arrangement in Manipur. Rather, if JLF is really serious on solution to Naga issue, they should all insists on solution before election by not filing their nominations in the coming 2013 state assembly election, Kitovi said.

Kitovi also said that his former colleague and NSCN (K) President, SS Khaplang, should be considered a closed chapter and that it was better for Nagas not to talk of Khaplang anymore.  Narrating on events before the split of “Unification” (GPRN/NSCN) and NSCN (K), Kitovi said that all along, the NSCN (K) Chairman based in Myanmar was against unity and reconciliation of Naga groups.

He said Khaplang’s letter to FNR dated August 21, 2011, had clearly mentioned NSCN (K)’s withdrawal from the reconciliation process as well as Khaplang’s intention to negotiate separately with Myanmar government for Nagas living in Maynmar and not interfering in affairs of Nagas within India.
