Naga Republic day lends credence to sovereignty: NNC

DIMAPUR, MARCH 22 (MExN): NNC President Gen (Retd) I. Panger Walling has on the occasion of the 51st Naga Republic Day stated that March 22nd, 1956 was a red letter day as it legitimized the legal and political form of Governance for the Naga people as a Sovereign Nation 51 years ago. “On this occasion, I wish all the Naga people for a better tomorrow and peace in the land”, the NNC President stated.

Walling remembered the Naga martyrs who sacrificed their all for this governance as a Sovereign and Republic Nation and saluted all the Naga patriots who defended the Nation with their very lives for the very freedom of the Nagas.

“I also wish all the South East Asian people success in their endeavour for their very rights and freedom on this National Day of ours”, he stated.

The NNC also reminded that the United Nations Committee on the Elimination of all forms of Racial Discriminations (CERD) at its Session in Geneva had taken the decision to repeal the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958 imposed illegally on the Nagas since 1958 and in particular on the North East people by the Government of India. “The people of this Region has been dominated and exploited completely by the Government of India. I on behalf of the Naga people welcome and fully support the concern and support shown to the occupied people of this region after many years of oppression and suppression by the occupational forces of India. I appreciate the step taken by the Committee (CERD) but once again I appeal the United Nations to do justice fully to the rightful people of this Region as urgency for the sake of peace in the world”.

The NNC President also appreciated and supported the concern and move taken by different NGOs from outside for the cause of the Nagas and also some countries concerns for the Nagas. “The NNC wish to mention that their concern and support for the Nagas will not go in vain”.

Walling also assured the Naga people once again in the Homeland and abroad that the NNC will never give up a God given sovereignty of the Nagas even if some party compromised the very stand of the Nagas. “The NNC will also never support the so-called integration of only the Western part of Nagaland, which is the occupied land of the Nagas by the Government of India. The NNC will only work and support for the whole of Naga inhabited areas of free and occupied land of the Nagas for sovereignty as proclaimed and declared from the very beginning. This is the stand of the NNC for the Nagas”.

About the much talk of reconciliation and unity by the Nagas in the homeland, the NNC stated that it had done its best possible for the very salvation of the Nagas as resolved after fragmentation but the factions did not listen and at the same time sabotaged the very efforts of the parent body of the Nagas. Therefore, the NNC remained silent and did not take active part in the recent past about this very issue in the Homeland, Walling stated adding that as long as the very fact of Naga history is twisted and distorted and the very stand of the Nagas for sovereignty is compromised, it will be difficult to unite just for the sake of unity because thousands and thousands of Nagas have sacrificed their very lives for sovereignty. “And it is also a shame to celebrate and observe two Republic Day separately on separate days for the Nagas. This is very unfortunate for the Nagas. The Nagas still have a long way to go if this trend is to continue. The Nagas have become a real laughing-stock to the outside world and the aggressors in particular. I pray to God that the Nagas come to their senses”.

While stating that “all the other parties talk about Plebiscite of the Nagas of 16th May 1951 for the very Naga right and also for the basis of Naga unity for a long time”, the NNC welcomed “this stand of the Nagas from different section of people for unity on clear cut stand of basic democracy for sovereignty”.

Walling appealed to all concerned parties to rededicate themselves to the goal that has been set for us by our leaders and martyrs in the past. “Let us be true to our Naga National cause and work for our people for our better tomorrow”.
