Dimapur Government College observes 59th foundation day

Dimapur, July 25 (MExN): Ex-Chief Minister of Nagaland Dr SC Jamir today observed that we have placed everything in one basket (politics) which has hindered the growth of Naga society. He criticised how divisive ideologies (“isms”) have dwarfed Nagaland, and urged to “get rid of the numerous “isms” from our society.”

Dr SC Jamir, Ex-Chief Minister of Nagaland and former Governor of Goa, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Odisha, as the special guest, was addressing the Dimapur Government College (DGC) 59th foundation day cum felicitation programme at the college auditorium on July 25, stated a press release received here.

Dr SC Jamir, Ex-Chief Minister of Nagaland and former Governor of Goa, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Odisha.

Stating “the best way to predict the future is to build it,” he exhorted the audience “to take care of the present, of what is in our hands, that is, today, and the future will be taken care of.” Given all the facilities and education Nagas have today, he asked, “What kind of Nagaland we want to build.”

In his address, Dr SC Jamir urged the college to introspect and analyse on what could have been done on its way to progress, stated an update from the college. Commenting that “reputation is the biggest strength,” Jamir exhorted the college to reflect on its duty and responsibility towards further enhancing the image and reputation built over the last 59 years. He remarked that “knowledge determines the academic muscle of a country.”

“So far, we have had only passive learning,” he observed and added, “we need to build learning tools and modify education system accordingly by harnessing technology.”

Dr Jamir emphasised on the need of teachers to update themselves with the changing times in the modern world. There is proliferation of knowledge all over the world, particularly in technological knowledge, he noted and questioned “if we are aligned to the many needs and challenges of our time.”

Dr Jamir concluded by expressing his confidence in Nagaland’s youth, urging them to harness their potential and compete not just nationally, but on the global stage. He exhorted the young people to treat themselves as citizens of the world and of India, to pave the way for a better Nagaland, to be an instrument and an asset for the building of Naga future, and to make Nagaland livable for every Naga where everyone will live without differences.
