Naga student duped by agent

DIMAPUR, AUGUST 26 (MExN): A Naga student aspiring to pursue an MDS (Master of Dental Surgery) in Orthodontics was duped of nearly Rs. 40 lakhs by a phony agent. According to an FIR lodged by the student, one Keneisenuo Kire of Dimapur, at East police station, the agent was identified as one Rajan Verma who posed himself as a negotiator for students seeking admission at I.T.S - Centre for Dental Studies & Research (I.T.S-CDSR), Ghaziabad, UP. Verma is said to be a resident of Lajpat Nagar II, New Delhi.

The aggrieved student in the FIR stated that Verma had convinced her into seeking admission at the said institute. Following which Verma told her that admission would be done through ‘Management Quota’ whereby, she was required to pay Rs. 40 lakhs. Of which Rs. 27 lakhs were to be paid as ‘Capitation/Donation fees’ to the institution for which no ‘acknowledgement/receipt’ will be given. The rest of the amount of Rs. 13 lakhs was to be paid as admission fees.

She was assured by Verma that the entire amount would be refunded if the admission did not go through as planned, the FIR stated.  As agreed, the amount for admission was send through cheque while the supposedly ‘Capitation/Donation fees’ was paid through an agent of Verma in Dimapur in the month of February. “The names and detail of the agent could not be ascertained as the transaction were made in good faith following assurance from Mr. Rajan Verma”, the FIR stated.

Later the same month she was called to Delhi by Verma from where she was taken to Ghaziabad. However, on reaching there, to her utter surprise the chairman of the institute told her that she cannot be granted admission for the ensuing academic year and directed her to seek admission at ‘Career Post Graduate Institute of Dental Sciences and Hospital, Lucknow (CPGIDSH).

The amount she had paid as admission fees was returned to her while the remaining amount; the chairman told her was transferred to CPGIDSH, it was stated in the FIR.  “This arrangement was done without my knowledge”, the FIR further stated.  The FIR stated that the arrangement was made by Rajan Verma and the chairman alongwith the ‘Chief Founder Trustee & President of CPGIDSH.  Such a situation, the FIR stated, compelled her to approve the alternative arrangement.

Again in the month of April, the student was called by Verma informing her that the necessary admission formalities were complete. Accordingly she was made to pay Rs. 10 lakhs as admission fees.

Another shock awaited her at the institute in Lucknow.  It was found that there were no proper facilities to undergo her preferred course of study there. As such she demanded her money be refunded as agreed before. To which Verma and company assured her in written that the deposited amount will be returned, the FIR stated.

Even after a lapse of so many months, the money was never refunded till today.

A police complaint was lodged in Dimapur against the above mentioned three persons for cheating under section 420 of the Indian Penal Code by the aggrieved student.
