Four Naga science students are all set to touch Japanese soil as part of Japan-Asia youth exchange programme in science (Sakura exchange programme in science).

This programme is an initiative of Japan Science & Technology Agency (JST) and organized by RMSA Nagaland.

The four students are - Bemang M Chang, Monchon S. Khiamniungan ( both from Government Higher Secondary School, Tuensang), and Limainla Kichu, Sakurepba (both from Mayangnokcha Government Higher Secondary School Mokokchung).

The team will be led by Medosalie, supervisor for Sakura Exchange Programme & PGT, RGHSS Kohima.

Speaking at the orientation programme here this afternoon at DUDA Guest House, Neposo Theluo, secretary, department of school education, Government of Nagaland said it is golden opportunity for students to experience the technology advanced country like Japan and complimented RMSA Nagaland for roping such package for Nagaland.   He said that very few number of science students opt for research work while majority go for professional courses like doctor and engineers.

Toward this end, Theluo challenged the students to aim for becoming scientists and technologists and contribute to the society.

“A time has come to go for specialization,” he maintained.

Limawabang Aier, state mission director RMSA Nagaland said that those four students were selected purely on merit basis. They will gather scientific development in Japan during this exposure trip and on return submit the activities to the RMSA.

Asano Sekhose, chairman Nagaland Board of School Education asked the students to get maximum benefit from this exposure trip and always show good behavior to others during their stay in Japan.

It is pertinent to mention that Sakura Exchange Programme is an initiative of JST to enhance exchange between the youth of Japan and rest of Asia.

These youth will play a crucial role in the future field of science and technology through close collaboration of industry-academia-government by facilitating short term visit of competent Asian youth to Japan.

Under this science high school programme, the students will be provided an opportunity to see the most advanced scientific technology of Japan and meet outstanding scientists.

They will leave for Delhi from Dimapur on May 19 and thereafter, will embark for Japan on May 21 along with other students and officials from other states under the guidance of Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD). The team will return to Delhi on May 27 and back to Dimapur on May 28.
