A joint meeting on Naga political issue attended by the elected representatives of Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA), representatives from Naga Hoho, ENPO, NSF, NMA, ENWO, Christian Forum, NPMHR, FNR, ONA, tribal organizations, civil societies, mass based organizations and Tribal Hohos here today endorsed that a ‘think tank group’ be set up to explore avenues and approaches towards resolving the Naga political issue.
This joint meeting, held in the Zonal Council Hall, was in pursuance of the decision taken in the meeting of the Joint Parliamentary Working Committee (JPWC) of 11th NLA held on May 28 last. The meeting was convened mainly to discuss matters pertaining to the Naga political issue.
Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and opposition leader Tokheho also addressed the meeting.
The joint meet resolved to appeal to all sections of Naga society to work towards unity, understanding and oneness in the greater interest of all Nagas in order to facilitate in bringing lasting peace through a negotiated settlement that is honorable and acceptable to the people.
It also appealed to all sections of National workers and over grounds to refrain from paper wars through the media and public platforms as “it vitiates the covenant of reconciliation which is aimed at forging understanding and oneness of Naga society.”
Further, it resolved to initiate a people to people dialogue “with our neighbors be undertaken.” The meeting also endorsed the resolutions of the 11th NLA in its sitting on the 27th November 2009 and the resolutions of the JPWC meeting with ex-parliamentarians held in Chumukedima on 14th April 2010. NLA speaker Kiyanilie Peseyie chaired the meeting.
