A Health and Wellness Centre (H&WC) building at Naga United Village was formally inaugurated on October 22 with Dr Thanghoi Lam, SPO, NHM, as the guest of honour.

The inauguration of the village H&WC was also attended by CMO Dimapur, Dr Moatemjen; Deputy CMO, Dr Antoly Suu, Health Department officials, Naga United Village Council members and others.

Dr Lam in his address said the inauguration of the H&WC would greatly benefit patients, especially villagers, who cannot afford treatment in private hospitals.

He said staff of H&WCs headed by a CHO have been trained to treat both infectious diseases as well as non-communicable diseases besides delivery cases, and except for major medical cases or emergencies, there was no need for patients to go to private hospitals for treatment.

The SPO, NHM, said at present more than 200 CHOs are working in health sub-centres in all districts of the State and that the CHOs have further been trained even to handle mental health issues.

Dr Lam said the main focus of H&WCs would be in neglected and marginalized areas, where people have little access to healthcare services.

CMO Dimapur, Dr Moatemjen, said that the old adages ‘Health is wealth’ and ‘Prevention is better than cure’ has become more relevant in the present day world and reminded the gathering of the Covid-19 pandemic, which has taken a heavy toll on lives.

Underscoring the need to invest in health, the CMO also said awareness and timely health check-ups would go a long way in ensuring overall health well-being of citizens.

Acknowledging the contribution and support of the Naga United Village Council and villagers towards building of the H&WC, Dr Moatemjen further urged the villagers to continue to play a proactive role in successful running of the health centre.

Atahülü Tetseo, CHO, H&WC Naga United Village chaired the programme and Reyopoyi Nyekha VCC, proposed the vote of thanks.
