Naga United Village on unilateral eviction of govt

Dimapur, June 26 (MExN): Following-up to the June 20 decision, the state government is said to have deputed an IRB force and Forest personnel to evict encroachers from embattled Intangki National Park June 24. The IRB on its eviction drive is understood to have cleared the remaining settlements left standing after the “evection drive” of the NSCN (IM) at Inavi village.

According to a note from “Naga united village council” today, a “unilateral” eviction was carried out by the Government of Nagaland by deputing IRB personnel with Forest department personnel on June 24. They burned the remains of the last “unilateral eviction” carried out by the NSCN (IM) on June16. The IRB personnel are also accused by the ‘council’ of burning ‘clothes, utensils, rice and all other essentials’ and did not even spare growing maize fields. The note termed the eviction to be “unilateral action” and “most unexpected” since the Government of Nagaland and Naga civil society in the consultative meeting of June 20 adopted a resolution to set up a committee to study the existence and occupation of reserved forest land “by the Beisumpuikam village.” “It is amply made clear time and again by the government that all the encroachers includes Beisumpuikam village who have occupied the Intangki Reserved Forest land illegally as clearly stated by the Forest department on 20th June consultative meeting,” the note stated.

Leaving Beisumpuikam village aside and burning down “the Naga united village” only shows the “hidden agenda of some vested interested people in the Government of Nagaland set-,” the ‘council’ alleged. “Instead of evicting the Beisumpuikam village, it is being provided security which is more surprising act on the part of the Government of Nagaland,” the note claimed. “Naga united village” has appealed to the Government of Nagaland and the Forest department “to be fair” to avoid “unnecessary confrontations” in the near future.
