Naga villages sign reconciliation and peace treaty

IN A most dramatic way where intra and inter villages conflicts are so common, two villages sharing the border of present Manipur and Nagaland, a Laii village the farthest Poumai Naga Village in Senapati District and Khomi Village under Phek District came to sign a reconciliation and peace treaty on Friday the 24th March at Khomi Village. 

In the bygone head hunting days the feast of peace and treaty was made between two villages inorder to heal the wounds of war. Mention may be made here that these two villages realizing the need and urgency of peace and reconciliation made a positive move to come under mutual agreement and signed the treaty in Khomi village upholding the principle and vision of Naga Hoho taking the initiatives steps in finding permanent peaceful solution and settlement to long protracted Indo-Naga issue. 

Sources said that earlier on Tuesday the 8th of March 2005; the same reconciliation and peace treaty was made in Laii Village. The people of the villages who are 71 kms apart in distance converged together on both occasions to find peace and reconciliation, thereby removing past wounds and bitterness. 

Grand feast was thrown and prayers made in the treaty. The peace treaty maintained the norms of Naga customary law. Markson Mateisou, President Poumai Masou Me commented that such gesture these two villages can be the role model to resolve conflicts taking place among the Nagas.
