Naga Women Union condemns rape

Tahamzam, February 19 (MExN): Denouncing crimes against women, the Naga Women Union (NWU) has strongly condemned the alleged rape of a six year old minor girl at Chinikol, Senapati District near Bishnupur by a youth named Meikingai of Chinikol on February 14. The victim is undergoing treatment and is stated to be in a serious condition.   Expressing its utmost resentment over the sexual assault, the NWU in a press statement condemned the acts of gender insensitivities, atrocities and disrespect on women in the society.   Contending that women have no security everywhere “whether at home, in the markets, learning institutions, offices and so on,” the women body observed that the security and safety of women is being severely threatened in the society today.

“Women are continuously targeted and crime committed against them is on the rise,” the NWU maintained. “All these unfortunate happenings are attacking the very fabric of our society,” it added.   The union appealed to every sensible person to denounce it and also called for cooperation in rooting out such social evils. It also urged law enforcing agencies to award befitting punishment to the culprits and deliver justice to the victim.
