Naga wrestlers back home from Asian Indoor & Martial Arts Games

The Nagaland Wrestling Association (NWA) today accorded a warm welcome to six Naga wrestlers who returned home after their successful participation at the 5th Asian Indoor & Martial Arts Games 2017 held at Ashgabat, Turkmenistan from September 19 to 23 last.  

Keduovilie Zumu from Tuophema village won bronze medal in Kazakh Kureshi style belt wrestling under 90kg category.  

Zumu along with 5 other Naga wrestlers – Surhoneyi Soho, Visevo Zashumo, Vechita Khesoh, Menuosetuo Yiese and Venuzo Dawhuo were part of the Indian belt wrestling contingent that competed at the Ashgabat tournament.  

Other wrestlers of the team reached the quarters and semi-finals bouts.  

The Naga wrestlers were accompanied by NWA president Neivikuolie Khatsu and general secretary Vekhozo Ringa as officials.  

62 countries participated in the championship in which India won four medals, said Khatsu while talking to media persons here this evening.  

Khatsu stressed on the need to have proper wrestling academy in the state so as to enable the Naga wrestlers to compete with others in the forthcoming international wresting platform.  

We have to push our wrestlers, he said adding that proper training is required to enable the Naga wrestlers to compete with full confidence.
