Nagaland: 1,379 Hindi teachers deprived of allotted salary

ANHTU appeal for release of all pending salary

Dimapur, February 19 (MExN): The All Nagaland Hindi Teachers Union (ANHTU) has again appealed to the state government to treat every state employee under the same yardstick and release all pending salary payments at the earliest.

In a press release on Saturday, the Union President Ruchunlo Tep and Sessional Secretary Waiba Ao stated that the 1,379 Hindi teachers, who were appointed under centrally sponsored schemes, have been deprived of their regular allotted salaries, despite being qualified and appointed on 'regular basis'.

The release stated that in 2011, posts for 1,379 CSS Hindi teachers were created in Nagaland to develop Hindi language in the state and with the State Cabinet’s decision; these 1,379 CSS Hindi Teachers were appointed on regular basis, based on interviews consisting of written and oral exams in the year 2012, 2013 and 2015 fulfilling all the criteria.

“The Nagaland state had not adopted the NCTE norms then at the time of the appointment of the 1,379 CSS Hindi Teachers. Therefore, with the adoption of NCTE norms in the year 2017, the state Govt provided 5 year relaxation period (2022-2027) vide order No. ED/CSS/RLX/1/2021-22, for the untrained Hindi Teachers to undergo training and fulfil the NCTE Criterions,” the release stated.

Additionally, it said that since the state has only one training centre for Hindi, the State Education Department sought permission to tie up with IGNOU to provide training facilities. Permission process to the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) has been done and the results will be announced soon, it said, adding that many untrained Hindi Teachers have been trained in the 10-year period since their appointment, thus fulfilling NCTE criteria.

The ANHTU however lamented that many Hindi teachers are being deprived of their regular allotted salary despite their qualifications and appealed to the state government to look into the matter and release the regular salary at the earliest.
