Nagaland: 16 new COVID-19 cases detected

16 new cases of COVID-19 were detected in Nagaland on July 9, bringing the State’s total positive tally to 673. 


Of the 16 new cases, 13 are from Peren and 3 are from Phek. As per data released by the Health and Family Welfare Department, the State now has 369 active cases and a total of 304 people have recovered so far. 


As of 3:00pm of July 9, Peren has the most number of active cases with 120, followed by Mon with 73, Kohima-67 and Dimapur- 64, Tuensang-29 Phek-12 and Mokokchung-3. Among the active cases, 368 are asymptomatic while one has moderate symptoms. 

 

Sec 144 CrPC imposed in Mon
The Deputy Commissioner of Mon has imposed Section 144 of the CrPC in Mon. The order was issued as COVID-19 positive case was detected at the quarantine centre in Government High School, Phomching on July 7. “It has become necessary to take all required precautionary steps to mitigate the possible spread of COVID-19 for public health, public safety and public order,” the DC stated. Meanwhile, it was informed that 6 returnees in Mon have been arrested and forwarded to judicial custody due for causing disturbance at a quarantine centre. While the incident occurred on July 2, the arrest took place on July 9 after completion of their quarantine period.  

 

Upper PWD Khm no longer a containment zone
The DC Kohima meanwhile has lifted the containment zone notice from Upper PWD Colony, Municipal Ward 11. All normal activities are now allowed to resume as per the various SOPs of the government which are still enforced, an order from the DC stated. It was issued after all primary and secondary contacts of the COVID-19 positive person in the area were identified and COVID-19 test results of all of them returned negative. It may be noted that the area was declared as a containment zone on June 26.
