Addressing the eighth session of the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) in Kohima on March 2, Nagaland Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla said that the Department of Agriculture has consistently undertaken measures to enhance agricultural productivity, sustainability, market linkages, and farmers' incomes through technology-driven and climate-resilient interventions.
Under PM-KISAN, as of January 31, 2026, a total of 2,38,174 farmers have benefitted, with Rs 770.05 crore transferred directly to their bank accounts through Direct Benefit Transfer.
The National Mission on Natural Farming is being implemented across 121 clusters covering 6,050 hectares, enrolling 15,125 farmers and promoting sustainable, chemical-free farming practices.
To promote jute and allied fibres, a five-year Memorandum of Understanding has been signed with the Jute Corporation of India Limited (JCI), the National Jute Board (NJB), and ICAR–Central Research Institute for Jute and Allied Fibres.
Additionally, during 2024–25 and 2025–26, 2,217 quintals of quality seeds were distributed under the National Food Security Mission, benefitting 1,77,687 farmers.
In Horticulture sector, Under the Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH) 2025-26, an allocation of Rs.38.88 crore has been allocated to the State, for covering area expansion of various horticultural crops and other interventions.
An area of 125 hectares is proposed to be covered for Golden Kiwifruit cultivation in 7 (Seven) districts under Horticulture Model Village initiative.
The Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services under National Livestock Mission (NLM) – Entrepreneurship Development Programme (EDP), facilitated 78 Pig Breeding Farms in 2025-26, which has resulted in production of over 14,500 piglets for breeding and more than 1160 tonnes of meat for consumption.
The Sericulture department during the current financial year is implementing the programme for development of Muga Silk for Sustainable Livelihood covering 100 beneficiaries in the districts of Mokokchung, Wokha, Zunheboto and Peren and of Eri Silkworm rearing in the districts of Tseminyu, Chümoukedima, Kiphire, Phek and Dimapur covering 120 women beneficiaries.
The Fisheries Department in 2026-27 under Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY), is planning to develop 100 hectare more water bodies along with input support and construction of 13 Biofloc ponds for fresh water areas among others.
The Department of Soil & Water Conservation has developed 73 units of Water Harvesting Ponds across Nagaland and 3 (three) nurseries under RKVY scheme for enhancing water conservation and producing high quality planting materials.
