Nagaland: 75 cases prosecuted against defaulters of Legal Metrology Act & Rules

A total of 75 cases have been prosecuted against defaulters of Legal Metrology Act & Rules in Nagaland by enforcement officers during the financial year 2017-18.  

A total of 3743 cast iron, brass and other weighs, 215 capacity measures, 142 length measures and 250 mechanical and electronic weighting and measuring instruments have been verified and certified by the department during the financial year.  

This was stated in the annual administrative report 2017-18 of department of legal metrology & consumer protection tabled on the Floor of the House today by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio. The report stated that the department has also calibrated 139 vehicle tanks which transport petroleum products.  

The department has also verified and stamped 164 fuel dispensers at petrol pumps in all parts of the state.  

The department realized verification fees of Rs. 9, 71, 290 through the verification and stamping of weighing and measuring instruments, and has realized compounding fees of Rs. 80,000 and licence fees of Rs. 10, 400 from the issue of Packers’ Licences and Dealers’ Licences to packers of packages commodities and dealers of weights, measures and weighing measuring instruments during the financial year 2017-18.
