DIMAPUR, AUGUST 27 (MExN): The Ao Baptist Church Association (ABAM) has called for free will contributions from the people towards completing the Nagaland Foothill Road Project.
A press note from the Executive Secretary, ABAM, Rev Dr Mar Atsongchanger stated that the Foothill Road which will provide direct access between Mon-Dimapur is in the process of “making our dream into reality.”
It informed that earth cutting work started in December 21, 2013 and till date the expenditure has come up to Rs 70 crores. Citing information from the Foothill Road committee, ABAM informed that there is still 8 km of earth cutting work left to be done, which will incur an estimated expenditure of Rs 11.5 crores. “Total dependency on government schemes and other organizations may delay the construction which may even turn our plan into fiasco,” it observed.
“We cannot give all the required net amount, yet, we can take part in road construction by giving little that we can and help ourselves avail comfortable access to major towns,” it reasoned. Having sensed the urgent need for completion of the road and the need for help from the public, ABAM, during the annual council meeting in 2017 resolved to uphold a special prayer in one of the Sunday devotional services and collect free will offering for the construction.
Upon implementation of the resolution, ABAM fixed the date on September 9, 2018, which is highlighted in the association’s calendar of events to “pray and collect free will offering.”
“Since the day is approaching close, though letter had been served to all the local churches under the aegis of ABAM, for mass information ABAM hereby through this release reminds all its members to generously give so as to have our Foothill Road construction completed at the earliest,” it urged.
