Kohima, September 14 (MExN): The Nagaland government organised a State Farewell programme at the State Banquet Hall, CM’s Residential Complex, Kohima on September 14 for its outgoing Governor, RN Ravi.
As per a DIPR report, Nagaland Chief Secretary, J Alam mentioned that RN Ravi had been functioning as the Interlocutor for Naga peace talks since 2014 and was appointed as the Governor of Nagaland on August 1, 2019.
State Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio thanked the Governor for his contribution and said that the Governor had done his best during his time as an Interlocutor. Rio said that the landmark Framework Agreement with the NSCN (IM) signed on August 3, 2015, followed by the signing of the Agreed Position with the NNPGs on November 17, 2017, “bears ample testimony to the hard work and the negotiating skills of the Governor.”
He further said that as a Governor, RN Ravi had genuine concern for the development and welfare of the State and carried out whatever was possible within the constraints of the State’s resources, to expedite and improve implementation of infrastructural and welfare projects in the State.
Rio also acknowledged the Governor’s role in management of the COVID-19 crisis in the State. The CM said that the people of Nagaland would remember that “Governor Ravi tried his best, both as a Governor and as an Interlocutor, for the Naga Political Issue.”
RN Ravi’s name and identity is synonymous with the Indo-Naga political issue, Leader of NPF Legislature Party, TR Zeliang was quoted as saying in the DIPR report.
Zeliang also expressed hope that the Governor would continue to support the Naga people for an amicable solution to the Naga political problems, keeping his close association with all sections of the Naga society.
State Deputy CM Y Patton recalled Ravi’s passion for understanding the core issues concerning any development matter and said that the State would continue to be inspired by the advice and exemplary statesmanship of the Governor.
Meanwhile, the Governor shared that he was “immensely benefited by the inherent love and affection of the people of Nagaland.”
He said that, as a Governor, adviser and well-wisher, he tried and acted where he thought he should act with the intention of bringing some good to the people of Nagaland, the DIPR report added.
As an interlocutor, RN Ravi stated that he tried “to bring the talk from abroad to the land and its people where it belongs.”
He added that violence has only divided the Nagas and brought much more misery. The Governor said he and his family would always remain grateful to the people of Nagaland for their love and affection.
Earlier, the invocation prayer was pronounced by Pastor Shan Kikon, and a musical and cultural programme was presented by TaFMA as per the DIPR report.
