Minister for Agriculture and Co-Operation, G. Kaito Aye today vowed that he will be a ‘farmer-friendly minister’ and place proper mechanism for sustainable development of agriculture in the state. The Minister assured that he will put his best effort to see that the agri and allied sector is given utmost attention by the People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) government and connect the required packages to the farmers. Speaking at the felicitation programme, organized by Janata Dal (U) Nagaland State Unit in his honour at Hotel Japfu, Aye stressed on the need to identify the right crops for large scale production basing on suitability of the locations. Aye was elected to the 13th Nagaland Legislative Assembly on JD (U) ticket from 36 Satakha Assembly Constituency. Encouraging the people to pick up farming as economic activity, he however expressed concern over the practice of jhum cultivation which has been destroying forest and posing negative impact to climate.
