The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) was in Nagaland in connection to an unexplained cash catch, in which officials of the Nagaland Agriculture Department were implicated. According to sources, a CBI team conducted searches at the Department of Agriculture, both at the Directorate and Administrative office (Nagaland Civil Secretariat) in Kohima on February 8.
There was no official acknowledgement of the CBI search from the state government but as per reliable sources, the investigation trail traces back to an incident at the Delhi airport that happened in December 2023. Unexplained cash amounting to Rs 70 lakhs was reportedly found in the possession of three Nagaland government officials at the time.
The three officials included an IAS officer and two officials of the state Agriculture Department. The implicated officials were not named but the IAS officer was said to be currently on deputation to the Nagaland cadre.
The sources said that the investigation related to fund allegedly related to a scheme funded by the UN’s International Fund for Agricultural Development.
