Kohima, January 31 (MExN): In the Agri and allied sector, during 2015-16 the total food grain production in the state of Nagaland was 6.77 lakhs metric tons with a productivity level of 2096 kg per hectare. Governor of Nagaland, P.B. Acharya disclosed this during the 68th Republic Day function held at the Secretariat Plaza, Kohima on January 26. He said that the department aims to achieve production of 7.11 lakh metric tons of food grain with productivity level of 2138 Kg per hectare.
The Department of Horticulture has introduced the concept of ‘Vegetable Villages’ under the Horticulture Mission for North East and Himalayan states scheme. The Governor explained that potential villages were identified and adopted as vegetable villages and provided with vegetable needs. Significant progress has been made in different districts of the state and so for 650 hectare area has been covered in all the 11 districts with a production of 3380 metric tons, he stated.
The Public Health Engineering Department is implementing four major rural water supply schemes funded by DoNER in Chiephobozou Block in Kohima, Japukong Range in Mokokchung, Akuk village in Wokha and in Mon village and four surrounding villages.
In the road sector, the work on 4 laning of Dimapur-Kohima stretch of National Highway 29 has started. The Department of Transport has launched the Helicopter service by the new operator Global Vectra Helicorp on January 2, 2017, the Governor said. The Department of Science & Technology has completed an Innovation Hub and Astronomy and Space Exposition Hall infrastructure with the support of National Council for Science Museum, Kolkata.
The Department of Information Technology and Communication organized the 2nd e-Naga summit in 2016, making the State of Nagaland the next IT hub South East Asia. He added that Nagaland has been selected by the computer society of India ‘Nihilent e- Governance Award Committee’ as the best performing state in the North eastern region for it and e- Governance initiatives.
