The protest by the All Nagaland Adhoc Teachers’ Group (2015 batch) entered its fourth consecutive day on February 7, with the agitating teachers announcing that the stir will resume on February 9 in the absence of any positive response from the state government.
The atmosphere at the protest site turned sombre following the death of one of the group’s members in Dimapur earlier in the day. In a mark of solidarity, the protesters observed a silent prayer in memory of the deceased.
The ANATG-2015 has been demanding service regularisation since 2018. After the state government failed to respond to their ultimatum, which expired on January 30, the teachers began a peaceful protest on February 4 at Naga Solidarity Park in Kohima.
On February 6, the protesters marched towards the Nagaland Civil Secretariat, holding placards and raising slogans to press their demands.
A member of the ANATG Core Committee told the media on Friday that the group held two rounds of talks with the School Education Department on February 4 and 5. The teachers also met the Chairman of the Screening Committee for regularisation on Thursday, but the discussions did not yield any positive outcome.
The ANATG-2015 had earlier staged protests in 2018 and undertook an indefinite hunger strike in 2022, reiterating their long-pending demand for regularisation.
