
Kohima, May 5 (MExN): In view of the dust caused by massive earth cutting for cabling, both by private cable operators and government department, chairmen of the 19 wards of Kohima Town have urged the People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) government to turn Kohima from “Dusty City” to “Tasty City.”
This decision was made during a meeting of the Directorate of Municipal Affairs with the ward chairmen of Kohima Town on April 27 in the conference hall of the directorate.
The meeting minutes issued by the Head of the Department, Municipal Affairs, Dr. Toshimanen Ozukum informed that the meeting meanwhile kept on record the positive initiative of the PDA government in repairing the potholes of roads in Kohima Town.
Subject to approval by the State Government of Nagaland, the meeting also adopted the following resolutions.
All the sectors under different wards will work out to regulate traffic movement and parking of vehicles at designated parking lots, it resolved. No vehicle shall be allowed to park on both sides of the road which creates traffic jam. In this regard, a decision was made to charge a nominal parking fee of Rs. 10 per day and Rs 500 per month at designated parking lots for safety of the vehicle. This collection will become revenue of the Ward Panchayat and used for maintenance. It was further decided that all wards will utilize services of the youth and find out ways and means to generate part time employment for them.
The meeting also resolved that all Panchayats will find out available open space, old government quarters not habitable due to encroachment, Panchayat land if any, CGI garage in the hands of private individuals etc. and submit to the Directorate of Municipal Affairs within one month with effect from May 1, 2018 along with documents.
Meanwhile, engineering wing of the Directorate of Municipal Affairs will prepare technical estimate at present market rate and submit to the HoD who will submit to appropriate authority to develop as smart parking, it added.
