Nagaland: Athletics Coach Awala Walling no more

Kohima, September 13 (MExN): The sports fraternity in Nagaland on Tuesday have lost an Athletics Coach, Awala Walling in Dimapur. 

The Nagaland Athletics Association (NAA) expressed shock on the demise of Awala, who was a dedicated and disciplined person and was responsible for training and grooming several champion sportspersons during her career as an Athletics coach.

She was herself a champion sportsperson in the field of Athletics having won many laurels during her playing days. Later she became an accomplished Coach after successfully acquiring her qualification from the National Institute of Sports, Kolkata, NAA President Abu Metha stated in a condolence note. 

Only recently, in 2021/22 she had given her best efforts towards training the Nagaland team for the South Asian Cross Country Championships and the 56th National Cross Country Championships held at Kohima on March 27, 2022. Her tireless efforts and committed dedication towards training the team resulted in the Nagaland Women’s Team winning the Bronze Medal in the National Championships, which created history. 

“She was a passionate sportspersons at heart and had genuine love for all the sportspersons especially her young student athletes. Many of the present generation of champions in the field of Athletics owe their success to her guidance and stewardship,” Abu stated. 

The Sports fraternity has lost a dedicated disciple and the Athletics community has lost one of our strongest pillars. The vacuum created by her loss will be difficult to fill. The entire family of Nagaland Athletics conveys our deepest condolences to the members of the bereaved family and we pray to Almighty God to let the departed soul rest in eternal peace, he added. 

Nagaland Olympic Association in its condolence note stated that the sports fraternity of Nagaland is deeply pained to learn of the untimely demise of Awala Walling.

The association stated that Awala was an Athletics Coach under the Department of Youth Resources & Sports, Government of Nagaland. She has made many positive contributions towards the development of sports especially in the field of Athletics. She was a disciplined person who gave her best efforts towards grooming young talents and turning them into champions.

The Nagaland Olympic Association, Assistant Secretary General, Neivikuolie Khatsu in its note stated that the association places its appreciation to her for her contributions and sacrifices towards the good of sports and sportspersons. The President and all members of the NOA conveyed its condolences to the members of the bereaved family and pray to the Almighty God to let the departed soul rest in peace.
