Nagaland: Awareness campaign on food safety intensified in Kohima

Kohima, September 27 (MExN): As part of Poshan Maah, Food Safety on Wheels and Food Safety Team, along with State Program Officer (Food Safety) Dr. Akuo Sorhie and Dr. Obajungla, Deputy Director, on September 26 conducted intensified awareness campaign on food safety. It was held to create awareness and educating food vendors, school children and general public.  

The Food Safety Team in a press release said that the areas covered during the campaign were Lerie Colony, AG Colony, Lower Chandmari, Razhü Point and High School Junction.  

As part of the campaign various activities were conducted. Water samples were collected from a ring well at upper Lerie colony which was catering to the nearby locality and from a bored well at St. Mary Cathedral Higher Secondary School.  

Awareness on safe and nutritious food were highlighted to the students of St. Mary Cathedral Higher Secondary School by Khrukutolu Veswuh, Food Analyst. Awareness on hygiene and safe food, like danger of wrapping food items with newspaper was highlighted to the street food vendors.  

Testing of formalin in fresh fish was carried out at Razhii point and suspected samples of dry fish, vegetables, chilly powder and fruits were collected at High School area for testing.
