Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio today graced the platinum jubilee celebration of Pfutseromi Village Students’ Union (PVSU), which coincides with hosting of the 71st general conference of Chakhesang Students’ Union (CSU) at Pfutseromi village under the theme “To transcend the boundaries.”

Addressing the gathering as guest of honour, Rio hoped that the year 2020 will promote brotherhood and harmony amongst the Naga brothers. “Today as we live in competitive world, life is not easy. Therefore, we have to be very serious with life,” he said.

Extending high respect for the Chakhesang community, he said that Phek district is a traditional district- land of tradition as they still uphold the rich culture and tradition of the Nagas. “Whatever you do you do with all seriousness,” he said and maintained that Chakhesang is the most progressive tribe in the state of Nagaland. He challenged the Chakhesang community to partner together and try to bring settlement to the Naga political issue and give opportunity to the youth to have peace and development. “Let us commit ourselves once again to work for the betterment of the Nagas,” he said.

‘Education is everything’
Stating that education is a very interesting and serious business, Rio maintained that education is the best thing that ever happened to the Naga society.

Maintaining that education is everything, he strongly felt the need to pursue education very seriously.

“We should take the student period seriously so that we build our future with knowledge,” he said.

“If a person is not educated, it is like a bird without a wing,” Rio said adding that education is about knowledge that introduces students to the world.

Stating that education is life itself, he said “Education give us knowledge and education set your free and knowledge give you power.”

He called upon the students to think, reason, understand and act and respect and obey the rule of laws and obey the command of the leaders.

‘Our society yet to be civilized’
Rio said that our society is an educated society but our society is not a refined society.

He said that our society is yet to be a civilized society “because it takes a long process of evolution.”

“We have to learn to control, to discipline our emotion, our anger, our anxiety and have self control and to deal with others and to act responsibly,” Rio said.

He regretted that everyone thinks to change the world or to change something which they feel it is wrong “but no one think of changing himself for the better. We always justify ourselves that we are right and we always find others wrong and we want to change the circumstances but we don’t realize that we have to change ourselves first.”

He said that a time has come to act responsibly to have a bright future.
