
Kohima, June 7 (MExN): Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and Tourism & Higher Education Minister Temjen Imna Along today condemned the alleged assault of two persons from Nagaland on June 4 in the Chanakyapuri area of Ahmedabad, Gujarat. According to news reports, they were allegedly assaulted for "selling non-vegetarian and northeastern food."
Taking to Twitter, CM Rio called the incident disturbing. "We should respect each other's cultural identity and food choices. Let us live up to our ideal of unity in diversity," he added.
Meanwhile, Minister Along also expressed pain over the incident and termed it a "hate crime." "It is disheartening to see our brothers from the northeastern region being targeted and discriminated against for their cultural identity and food choices," he added.
According to reports, an FIR was lodged at Sola Police Station on June 5, and the accused were booked on charges of causing voluntary hurt using dangerous weapons and criminal intimidation, among others. One person was arrested in connection with the case.
