Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio today graced the inaugural programme of Kezoma Urban Station at Kezoma village, Kohima. Today, districts for the state of Nagaland have been added from 11 to 16.
In the list of 13 new Urban Stations that were listed for establishment, Kezoma was in the first serial and received the government’s notification after a cabinet approval on July 4, 2022, Rio said.
He added that the inauguration of the Urban Station is being made possible today because all paper works have been cleared and there were no issues.
In Nagaland, there are three municipal council in Dimapur, Kohima and Mokokchung, 36 town council with DC headquarters, Sub Divisional Headquarter and 13 Urban Station.
Adding that in the state, according to 2011 census, more than 50% of the population has migrated from rural to urban areas, he called to maintain and sustain traditional values and self respect but abide by rules and orders placed by government on urban areas which in turn will pave way for progress and development.
While pointing out that the land is sufficient and have scope for development, he asserted that town planning, mapping should be undertaken on priority adding that roads, residence, business establishment, other amenities and institutions like schools, hospital, recreational places and beautification should be appropriately and strategically placed by taking expertise from Urban development.
Earlier, when a large portion of the land in Kezoma had been utilised by military, the land use has been decreased in the last few decades. In this regard, the CM said he will be representing in the government to revisit land use and so that developmental avenues can be explored for the Urban Station in the unutilized areas that were earlier occupied by the military.
Roads are very important for the people and therefore the first priority after master plan of the town should be development of roads. Water supply, another basic amenity should be supplied through gravity system, Rio mentioned.
While demarcating that rural areas need to focus on farming, townships should focus on expanding the local business market, be it organic or poultry, entrepreneurship and at the same time enhance skills through training which will at the same time compensate and promote farming. The same, can also be benefitted through the National Highway 2-Lane upgradation. He called legislatures incharge of different departments to work hand in hand to bring development in this region.
Sanction for indoor & multipurpose hall
Rio during the occasion also announced the sanction of an indoor stadium and Multipurpose hall in the newly inaugurated Urban Station. The building can be utilised for public gatherings and functions and at the same time use it as an indoor stadium. He therefore called the people to allot a plot for the same and at the time build a ground in the vicinity, where he additionally announced to construct a restroom.
The Chief Minister also called the people to choose our representatives wisely.
Taking instance of nurturing a tree, which he said if uprooted without nurturing will not see growth in the long run hampering its life and providence. The same, he said is also similar with elected representatives in the government. He called for reaffirming trust towards elected representatives to take visions of development forward.
While congratulating the people of Kezoma, Rio said the government has been able to fulfill the long awaited dream and vision through the help and support of the people. He wished success for setting up of Kezoma Urban Station and assured that the government will work hand in hand and support the people for the way ahead.
He said through the inauguration, Kezoma Urban Station has become a full-fledged town. Various other regions of Nagaland also had wishes/demands for setting up of Urban Station in their area but since there are certain rules and procedure to be followed and many of these demands have been delayed due to these processes.
Advisor for Youth Resources and Sports Department, Zale Neikha also spoke in the programme which was attended by other Advisors and MLAs. The Chairman of the four villages coming under the jurisdiction of the Kezoma Urban Station including Kezoma, Kezo Basa, Kezo Town and Sakhabama spoke in the programme. Zadeho Rikha, Vice President (Judicial), Angami Public Organization (APO) also spoke at the programme; Kroneicho Naki, Organizing Committee delivered the welcome speech and Kedivi Mekro, Treasurer, Organizing Committee delivered the vote of thanks.
