Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio launched a series of economic transformative initiatives aimed at boosting tourism, empowering entrepreneurs, and enhancing the livelihoods of the people at a programme held at Capital Convention Centre on November 27.

Rio as the guest of honour has launched the ‘Ura Cabs’ Nagaland Tourism Connect – Hornbill edition terming it as significant milestones in Nagaland’s journey towards growth, innovation and inclusivity.

He stated that each of these milestones reflects the commitment of the government to fostering economic development, empowering local entrepreneurs, and enhancing the tourism and transport infrastructure of the state.

Stating that state’s first homegrown taxi aggregation platform, Ura Cabs as a proud moment for Nagaland, Rio said by providing tourists with a hassle-free booking experience and taxi owners with a stable and remunerative platform ‘this will bridge a critical gap in our tourism and transport ecosystem while supporting local taxi owners.’

The event also saw the flagging off of branded tourism vehicles under the Nagaland Tourism Connect initiative. The fleet includes eight Tata buses (20 seaters), two Tata Wingers, 65 Kia Carens, and 20 Toyota Innovas, all branded to represent Nagaland’s unique identity and enhance travel experiences for tourists, said Rio.

Emphasising on the Chief Minister’s Micro Finance Initiative (CMMFI), as a ‘shining example of the state’s innovative spirit and commitment to economic progress’, Chief Minister said, it reflects the harmonious  partnership between the government, the private sector and banking institutions working together to uplift the people.

He informed that, it has secured a commitment from its manufacturing partners to train and equip the local mechanics, wherein they will be empowered to handle the latest BS6 vehicle technology.

Highlighting the state’s focus on capacity building, Rio announced the culmination of extensive training programs for tourism stakeholders, including guides, homestay operators, taxi drivers, and tourism police. These programs, he maintained are designed to elevate the Hornbill Festival experience and ensure visitors enjoy safe and enriching stays.

He also announced the ‘Nagaland Logistics Connect’ terming it as a transformative initiative aimed at driving economic growth and empowering entrepreneurs through enhanced logistics and transportation support. 

Under this initiative, CM said, an exclusive 12% manufacturer discount on vehicles procured for commercial purposes in Nagaland, and beneficiaries can avail the discount by applying through the Credit Portal of Nagaland. 

Also, for those seeking greater financial support, may apply through the CMMFI to access upto 42% subsidy, informed Rio.

In a pioneering move, Rio also launched India’s first Digital Piggery Insurance Scheme, developed with the support of the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) and Tata AIG to address long standing hurdles in livestock insurance, particularly, the complexities of post-mortem procedure for claim settlements. 

To provide social and financial security for every citizen of Nagaland, Rio informed that the government through its steadfast commitment has introduced the Chief Minister’s Universal Life Insurance Scheme (CMLIS) to safeguard families from the impact of unforeseen tragedies.

Meanwhile, as the state gears up for the 25th edition of the Hornbill Festival, the Chief Minister has urged all stakeholders to make this year’s event a model of Naga hospitality and efficiency. “Let us ensure that every visitor leaves with unforgettable memories, eager to return and explore more of what Nagaland has to offer” stated Rio.

Others who spoke include Radhakrishnan, Chief General Manager, State Bank of India, Guwahati, Minister, Temjen Imna Along and Chief Secretary, J Alam while Abu Metha, Chairman IDAN and Advisor to Chief Minister delivered the welcome address.
