Nagaland coffee in demand for high quality

Wokha, August 18 (MExN): ‘Nagaland produces high quality coffee in comparison to normal coffee available in the market. It has become a popular drink gaining high demand from different parts of the country and world,’ Department of Land Resources (DoLR), Director, T Renben Lotha informed during the inauguration of Coffee Natural Nagas Café at Wokha on August 17.

A DIPR report stated that the director encouraged the coffee farmers to put in more effort, to develop the coffee drinking culture and make it available throughout the year. Coffee can bring change in the image perception of Nagaland in terms of tourist attraction, he observed and said, “Coffee plantation can be a part of nation building income generation.”

He stated that the vision of Land Resources Department is to promote coffee culture by following the 3E’s- Employment, Environment and Economy. The director informed that the department has signed MoU with Noble Cause Coffee Company, Cape Town South Africa for 30 years. Also, in collaboration with Coffee Board of India and Land Resources Government of Nagaland, coffee farmers are technically supported and supervised to promote coffee farming.

DoLR Deputy Director, C Vanchamo shared that majority of Nagaland geographic is micro climate conditions which is very suitable for coffee plantation and said, “Coffee plantation does not distinguish rich or poor and it can be cultivated by any class of society.”

The café, proprietor Steve Odyuo said that Coffee Natural Nagas will be a part of natural environment by way of conservation and management.

The programme was chaired by Land Resource Department, Wokha DPO Tepunol Yore. DoLR Joint Director, Albert Ngullie, officials and dignitaries attended the function.
