Nagaland commemorates Postal Week

Joining India Post in celebration of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav@75 and National Postal Week, Nagaland Postal Division observed Banking Day here at Kohima Head Office premises on October 11.

Speaking on the occasion, Razuzakie Phinyo, Superintendent Posts, Nagaland said that Nagaland Postal Division along with the rest of the country is also celebrating 75th anniversary of Indian Independence (Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav) during this National Postal week starting from today till October 17.

During this National Postal week, Nagaland Postal Division will also observe Postal Life Insurance Day on October 12, Philately Day- October 13, Business Development Day- October 14 and Mails Day- October 16.

“Today is Banking Day and post office savings bank has a history of over 139 years. It was in 1882 that the post office saving bank of India came into existence,” he said.

Today, post office is offering different schemes under savings schemes such as Saving Bank, Recurring Deposit, Time Deposits, National Saving Scheme, Kisan Vikas Parra, Pu0blic Provident Fund, Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana, Monthly Income Scheme and Senior Citizen Savings Scheme.
 
Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana

Referring to Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana (SSY), he said this scheme encourages parents to build a fund for the future education and marriage expenses for their female child.

The scheme was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 22, 2015 as part of the nation-wide Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao campaign.

Accounts under this scheme can be opened by any citizen for their daughter whose age is less than 10 years on the day of opening the account. SSY account can be opened at any post office with an initial deposit of Rs 250.
 
Indian Post Payments Bank

Phinyo said that the Indian Post Payments Bank (IPPB) is a specialized division of India Post which is under the jurisdiction of the Department of Post, a department under Ministry of Communications, Government of India.

Launched in 2018, the bank had acquired about 4 crore customers by December 2020.

Understanding the needs of the customers, the IPPB is offering various tailor made service as deposits-saving account & current account, direct benefit transfer for scholarships and other social welfare benefits, third party product such as loans, insurance, investment etc, bill and utility like mobile and DTH recharge, electricity- water & gas bills.
 
Five star villages

Phinyo said that the Department of Posts has launched a scheme called Five Star Villages.

The scheme seeks to bridge the gaps in public awareness and reach of postal products and services, especially in interior villages.

And as part of the financial inclusion plan, Nagaland postal division is also organizing a mela in each district.

Special focus has been given on opening of SSY on this banking day, he said adding that a target of minimum five accounts to be opened by each post offices, i.e in 330 post office in Nagaland.

Meanwhile, Phinyo informed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has often shared his vision of building a new- AatmaNirbhar Bharat- Self Reliant India by 2022.
 
‘Opening an account is not a hassle in post office’

Parmita Nath, Postal Assistant Kohima Head Office said that opening an account is not a hassle in post office as one can easily locate post office in rural and urban area.

Touching on Atal Pension Yojana, she said any person between 18 to 40 years can opt for this scheme by visiting any nearest post office.

This pension scheme aim to provide pension benefits especially to those in the unorganized sector.

Earlier, the programme was chaired by Sungjemlila while vote of thanks was proposed by Neikuoü, deputy postmaster of Kohima head office.

The occasion also witnessed screening of video on Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav India @75.
