Kohima, February 20 (MExN): Community Health Officers (CHOs) from across the State have converged for the five-day Training of Trainers (ToTs) on the Expanded Package of Service under Comprehensive Primary Health Care (CPHC) starting from February 20. The training is organised at the conference hall of the Directorate of Health & Family Welfare, Kohima.
Welcoming the officers, Dr E Motsuthung Patton, Mission Director, National Health Mission (NHM) said that CHOs plays a vital role in delivering health services to the doorstep of everyone in the village and that, they are the backbone of the Health & Wellness Centers in the state. Dr Patton also encouraged them to be sincere and regular in performing their duties towards improving the health indicators in our State.
Dr Manyau Phom, Deputy Director, NHM while giving an overview of CPHC through Health & Wellness Center mentioned that of the two component under Ayushman Bharat Yojana viz HWC and PMJAY (health insurance), HWC is focused on the Preventive, Promotive, Curative, Rehabilitative & Palliative Healthcare with the aim of Delivering Comprehensive Primary Healthcare closer to the communities, with the principle of universal health coverage. He mentioned that, the role of the CHOs and Frontline Health Workers (FLWs) is very crucial as they are the first contact in the health delivery system.
Dr Vizokholo, State TB Officer, National TB Elimination Program (NTEP), while sharing a brief on the team’s visit to the aspirational blocks in the districts, appreciated the commendable services that the CHOs are providing CPHC through the HWCs in the villages. She added that the five day training will be beneficial to them in knowing more about TB related activities such as screening of presumptive TB cases, Sputum collection and transportation, thereby, participating in TB Elimination effort and fulfilling the Continuum of Care.
The five-day training will extensively cover the 12 expanded packages of services to be provided through the Health & Wellness Centre covering Reproductive & Child Health, Family Planning, Adolescent Health, Oral Health, Eye Care , ENT, Emergency Care, Mental Health, Elderly Care, Palliative Care Services, Food Safety and Non-Communicable Diseases .
After completing the ToTs, the CHOs will train the staff nurse and frontline workers like the ANMs and ASHAs.
