Nagaland conducts second COVID-19 vaccination dry run

Dimapur, January 8 (MExN): Nagaland State joined the second phase of the nationwide Coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccination dry run held on January 8. The first dry run was carried out on January 2.

During the day-long exercise, more than 25 health workers will get dummy vaccines at each site, which is meant to test the mechanisms and reveal possible gaps in the system ahead of the actual COVID vaccination drive.

Mokokchung: Dry run for COVID-19 vaccination was conducted at three sites in Mokokchung District. The dry run of the vaccination was headed by Dr R Chubala Aier, Chief Medical Officer, Mokokchung and team, with Dr Collin as the observer from the state.

“The purpose of the dry run was to check the District planned operations, assess operational feasibility of using Co-WIN in field environment, implementation and reporting mechanism, identify challenges and to test the preparedness for the actual day of vaccination from the point of entry to exit,” stated a press release from the CMO office Mokokchung. 

Mon: In Mon, the dry run exercise was conducted at District Hospital, Tizit PHC and Aboi CHC. 

“Dry run is a practice session, in which a sample number of beneficiaries will go through a mock immunization process to test the linkage between planning and implementation and identifying the challenges,” Leeyan Chemshy, Media officer, NHM, Mon stated in a press release. 

 Following the guidelines, the session site consisted of three rooms; waiting, vaccination and observation rooms with each vaccination team consisting of five members including vaccinator officer, vaccination officer for verification, mobilizing for vaccination, for portal uploading and for observation. 

During the exercise, 25 health workers got dummy vaccines at each site, which is meant to test the mechanisms and reveal possible gaps in the system ahead of the actual COVID vaccination drive.

Phek: Phek district successfully conducted dry run for COVID-19 vaccine roll-out at District Hospital Phek, Community Health Centre (CHC) Pfutsero, CHC Meluri & Primary Health Centre (PHC) Chizami.

Total of 25 beneficiaries were pre-registered in the dummy portal for each session sites which were successfully uploaded in the portal and four vaccination officers were deployed in the drive.

A press release issued by Kutolu Nakro, District Media Officer, NHM Phek stated that the objective of the dry run is to assess the operational feasibility in the use of Co-WIN application in field environment and also to identify the challenges prior to actual implementation.

The four model sites were set up as per the operational guidelines given by the health ministry. The session set up consist of waiting area, vaccination and observation rooms, hand washing site with separate entry and exit.

The dry run exercise was carried out under the guidance of Dr Vibeituonuo Mepfuo, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Phek and attended by Bhavani Sri IAS SDO Phek, representatives from education department, Social Welfare and DIPR among others.

Wokha: Wokha District COVID-19 immunization Committee (WDCIC) conducted dry run for COVID-19 vaccination at District Hospital Wokha, Urban Primary Health Centre and Community Health Care Centre (CHC) Sanis.

Altogether 75 health care workers, twenty five each from the three centre participated for the dry run as the first batch beneficiaries.

Wokha District COVID-19 immunization led by ADC Wokha, K Mhathung Tsanglao, CMO Wokha Dr T W Tungoe, MS Wokha Dr Tumchobeni, District Immunization Programmed Officer Dr Khelito Zhemomi witness the dry run programmed along with the State Level observer Dr Longri Kichu, UNICEF, Department of Health & Family Welfare (DHFW) and Dr Mhecucro Mero, IDPS, DHFW.

The State Level observer while commenting on the Wokha district preparedness on vaccination expressed their confidence that the district is doing good and is fully prepared and for the success of the vaccination all the line department, NGOs and district stakeholders need to actively involve.

CMO, Wokha Dr T W Tungoe said that for the success of the vaccination the district has already set up a committee and will be vaccinated phase wise, first phase Health Care Workers, second phase Frontline Workers and third phase will include vaccination of people who are 50 years and above and the last phase will be for those below the age of 50 years with co-morbidities.
