
Lions & Leo's Club of Dimapur provided polio drops to more than 200 children in different places in Dimapur on February 23.
Kohima: Along with the rest of the state, Kohima observed the second round of Intensive Pulse Polio Immunization (IPPI) at Chief Medical Officer’s office, Kohima by setting up 254 booths with 56 supervisors on February 23. IPPI has been a regular activity with a goal to eradicate polio in the country since 1995, a press release informed.
In Kohima, officers from health department, administration, police department have been mobilized to supervise the success of the programme throughout the district. Dr. Avile Zao, DPO (UIP-RCH) informed the public that, the district has target population of 37,808 to be achieved and urged the community to administer two drops of polio for those missed-out children from (0-5) years during the house visit sessions. She also added that, army personnel has set up booths at 11AR, 19AR. Mobile Polio Team on IPPI would also be visiting transit points, especially bus stations, railway stations and taxi stands all over the state for the next two days. The house to house visit and schools visit will be held on February 24 and 25, so the general public, community and parents as well as the school authorities have been informed to co-operate with the medical personnel.
With efforts of health workers and the support of the people, India has been polio free for the last two years, said Dr. Avile Zao. She also stated that by 2015, the country would be completely polio free if people maintain or sustain the level of dedication and support.
Mokokchung: Mokokchung district also conducted the second phase of intensive pulse polio immunization on February 23. A press release informed that Deputy Commissioner, Mokokchung Murohu Chotso was the chief Guest during the inaugural function at Imlong Place, Mokokchung. In his speech, he encouraged the people to come forward and take the drops to protect the children from polio. The programme was chaired by Dr. Limatula Aier DPO (UIP& RCH) Mokokchung.
The function was attended by Assistant Commissioner, EACs, CMO, Deputy CMO, IRCS, and Rotary Club of Mokokchung and health workers. The programme was carried out successfully through the active support and participation of the district administration, health workers, Indian Red Cross Society of Mokokchung, Rotary Club of Mokokchung, volunteers, Anganwadis and ASHAs, stated the press release.
Dimapur: For the second round of IPPI in Dimapur district, 550 booths have been set up across the district with mobile teams to achieve the targeted population of 53,167 (0-5 years). The programme was launched by Dr. M. A. Wati, Chief Medical Officer by administering the first two drops of polio at the inaugural function held at District Hospital Dimapur on February 23. The function was chaired by Dr. Lanuakum, District Programme Officer, RCH-UIP and was attended by Dr. D. Mero, MS, DHD, Dr. Imchameren, Dy.CMO, Dr. Khelito, DTO, Dr. Toshirenla, ZLO and Dr. Mao, DPO (NVBDCP). The department had achieved 107% coverage during the 1st round of IPPI in January 2014.
