Kohima, April 16 (MExN): The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) today joined the nationwide protest called by the All India Congress Committee (AICC) against what was alleged as the “blatant misuse of central agencies” by the BJP-led central government and its relentless “political vendetta” against opposition voices.

The protest was held at two locations—Congress Bhavan in Kohima and another at Dimapur, organised by the District Congress Committee (DCC) Dimapur.

Speaking at the Kohima protest, Nagaland’s lone Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) and NPCC President S Supongmeren Jamir said that Congress leaders like Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and KC Venugopal are raising their voices for the rights of minorities and Other Backward Classes (OBCs).

The BJP government was trying to divert these issues to stop Congress from working for the people, but the party remains committed, he asserted, according to a press release from the NPCC.

Khriedi Theunuo, NPCC Working President, also claimed that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) was “trying to shut down National Herald, a newspaper that shares the voice of the people” and accused the present Union government of “trying to silence Congress and other opposition voices.”

In Dimapur, C Apok Jamir, also a Working President of the NPCC, stated that this was not just a protest but a mass movement to protect democracy and uphold the Constitution of India, and charged the “RSS and BJP government” with systematically eroding the principles of the Constitution.

As per the release, Jamir also highlighted how the ED was being misused as a political tool to target Congress leaders without any proper evidence, and added that the Congress Party was being selectively targeted because it stands with the poor, the minorities, and the marginalised.

The protests concluded peacefully, with renewed pledges to continue fighting for justice, democracy, and the people of India, it added.
