Longleng, February 4: The Governor of Nagaland, Dr. Ashwani Kumar said that Nagaland could become a power generating state, if hydro electricity project at Dikhu River could raise it output. He said with 160 Mkv, Nagaland could be one of the advance states in power sector and could sell power to the other neighbouring states.
The Governor stated this while addressing during his maiden visit to Longleng district on February 1. He was accorded a warm traditional welcome in his maiden visit to Longleng district on February 1 at Convention hall of Phom Baptist Christian Association Hq Yengching, Longleng. Addressing the gathering, the Governor expressed his happiness to the people of Longleng, Phom Baptist Christian Association, Phom People council and civil societies for the traditional warm and felicitations accorded to him by different organisations. He expressed that he would cherish the memories of the people of Longleng.
Dr. Ashwani opined Longleng district as one of the youngest district and fast developing district in Nagaland. He also called upon the people of Longleng district to discover human and natural resources to enhance quality of life and to bring changes through economic development. Longleng district has good potential natural resources, which could drive the district as fast developing district. The importance of economic and its value should lay emphasis on education and not to discriminate the gender but create awareness.
At the occasion, Minister, Industries and Commerce, Pangnyu Phom, Parliamentary Secretary Land Resources, B.S Nganlang and President, Phom people council, Leisha Phom also delivered short speeches and highlighted the need and importance of road, education and water supply. Welcome address was delivered by Deputy Commissioner, K. Libanthung Lotha, Special song was presented by Gross road band, folk song and folk dance by Pongo village troupes. The function was chaired by Women Secretary, Angbhenla Phom and benediction was pronounced by Executive Secretary PBCA, Nukhu Phom. The Governor also visited Orphanage home, District hospital and Phomnyu village.
