The number of COVID-19 positive cases in Nagaland crossed the 1,000-mark on Monday nearly two months after the detection of the first COVID-19 case in the state.

With 33 fresh cases on July 20, the state's tally of confirmed cases rose to 1,021. The new cases were reported from Dimapur (16), Mon (12) and Kohima (5).

However, 39 ‘recoveries’ were reported in the state on Monday taking the recovery rate to 47% with 484 in total. The recoveries were reported from Peren (19), Kohima (18) and Mokokchung (2).

With the new recovery cases, the number of active cases in the state now stands at 537. No COVID-19 related fatalities have been reported in the state so far.

 

Health Minister, Dy CM test negative
Earlier in the day, State Minister for Health and Family Welfare, S Pangnyu Phom took to Twitter to announce his COVID-19 status.

“Have tested for COVID-19 today & result came out -ve. I will be discharged from the Facility Quarantine Centre today. However, all necessary precaution measures will be strictly adhered as per the SOPs issued by the Govt,” the Minister tweeted.

Deputy Chief Minister Yanthungo Patton who along with the Health Minister, went into facility quarantine on arrival from Delhi on June 16 also tweeted “The result of the third test I underwent today for #COVID_19 has come back negative. However, I'll remain under home quarantine adhering to the existing SOP. Also, I'll continue to perform my duties.”

 

Kohima PHED (Urban) office closed for 48 hours
Meanwhile, Kohima Deputy Commissioner Gregory Thejawelie has ordered temporary closure of the office of the Executive Engineer, PHED (Urban), Kohima, following the detection of a COVID-19 positive case among the staff.

The DC’s notification stated that the District Task Force had taken the decision on July 19, and shut the office for 48 hours with effect from July 20.

Fumigation of the premises is being initiated following all health safety measures and standard operating procedures of the government, it said.

The sealed area is mapped and cordoned off, and the public and all concerned are advised to follow safety precautions at all times, the DC stated.
