Association felicitates Nagaland cricket teams

Chümoukedima, June 19 (MExN): Nagaland cricket has been witnessing perpetual growth over the years, stated NCA President Kechangulie Rio on Saturday, acknowledging State’s three teams’— senior men’s team, senior women’s team, and under-19 boys’ team- contributions. The 3 teams qualified for the Elite group at various national-level interstate competitions. 

Rio was speaking at the felicitation programme organised by the Nagaland Cricket Association (NCA) held at Niathu Resort, Chümoukedima on June 18 to recognise the achievements of the players and state’s teams.

As per a DIPR report, he further noted that the main purpose of organising such an event was to recognise and encourage the players on their achievements both at the national and state level. 

Meanwhile, special guest and Advisor to the Chief Minister, Abu Metha congratulated the three teams for qualifying for the Elite group and reminded the players that there were hundreds of people from different professions who worked tirelessly behind the scenes. 

Describing cricket as an education, Metha said that it teaches respect and teamwork, and tests one’s character and decision making ability. 

The most-watched human activity in the world is sports and sports unify people; it understands no language, tribe, or race, he added. 

While encouraging the players, Metha also reminded them that once they wear the Nagaland jersey they become the ambassadors representing two million Nagas.

Group and individual prizes for the recently concluded Inter-district tournament from June 4 to 18 were also given out on Saturday.
Dimapur District Cricket team had won the tournament while Wokha team was the runner up in the event which witnessed the participation of 11 district cricket associations.

Short speeches were also delivered by Sachin Jaiswal, DC Dimapur; Abhinav Shivam, DC Chümoukedima, Dr Watizulu Susumeren, Vice president, All Indian Badminton Association; Rennedy Singh, former Captain of the Indian football team; and players and supporting staff. 

Herato Sukhalu, Vice President NCA delivered the vote of thanks while Ahidur Rahman Jt Secy, NCA chaired the programme, the DIPR report stated.
