DIMAPUR, NOVEMBER 5 (MExN): Nagaland will be hosting the South Asian Cross Country Championships and the 56th National Cross Country Championships on January 15. As a run-up to these national and international events, the Nagaland Athletics will be organising the Nagaland Cross Country Championships at Kohima on November 19 in the Indira Gandhi Stadium.
The event is an open event and entries are open for all participants in all the categories. Categories in which races will be held are Seniors, Under 20 years, Under 18 years and Under 16 years. Online entries and on-spot entries will be accepted. A total prize money of over Rs 2 lakhs will be awarded to the winners.
The Selection Committee of Nagaland Athletics will identify the Naga participants who have potential to excel for the Nagaland team, will undergo an intensive coaching camp for participation in the national event. Winners in the national events will get opportunities to represent India in forthcoming international events.
A press release from the media and IT cell of Nagaland Athletics encouraged that all sportspersons and health enthusiasts come forward and participate in this event “that opens a gateway of possibilities for our sportspersons and athletes to reach the highest levels of the sports.”
All participants will receive certificates. The distance for the races as per the categories will be as follows:
• Senior (10 Kms for both Men & Women)
• Under 20 (8 Kms for Men & 6 Kms for Women)
• Under 18 (6 Kms for Boys & 4 Kms for Girls)
• Under 16 (2 Kms for both Boys & Girls)
