The All Nagaland Hindi Teachers’ Union has appealed the state government to clear the pending salaries of 1,379 Hindi Teachers who were appointed in the year 2012-13 under Centrally Sponsored Schemes (CSS).
On Saturday, the union issued a press release stating that the salaries of the 2012-13 batch of CSS Hindi teachers have been unpaid since March this year leaving them in a ‘great financial crunch,’ and appealed the Finance Department to take cognisance of the grievances of the teachers.
Stating that it had been requesting the concerned department and authorities to release the salaries, the union said that the Finance Department had also made queries with regard to delay in payment of salaries. However, it viewed that the queries or investigation has to be done at the right time and not at the last moment. “Finance Department should not harassed teachers in the name of scrutiny,” it asserted in press release.
Speaking to The Morung Express over the phone, ANHTU President Ruchunlo Tep said that an agreement was made with the Government of Nagaland in March 2017, wherein it was resolved that the salary of CSS Hindi Teachers would be paid after every two months. The agreement also included finding a mechanism for timely release of salaries.
However, as of date, the government has failed to pay the salaries from March to June 2021, Tep added.
The president said that non-payment of salaries, especially in this time of pandemic, has doubled the problems of the teachers especially those who are posted in far-flung areas and questioned the government as to how it expects the teachers to work on empty stomachs.
The union further urged the Finance Department and the authorities for immediate release of pending salaries and to resolve the issue of delayed salaries.
