Nagaland CWCs sensitized on POCSO & Juvenile Justice Act

Kohima, April 25 (MExN): The State Child Protection Society Nagaland organized an orientation programme on Protection of Children from Sexual Offence Act (POCSO Act) and Juvenile Justice Act (JJA) for Child Welfare Committees (CWCs) Nagaland at Hotel Ura Conference Hall on April 25.  

The programme was mainly conducted to have the first hand information report from the districts about the functioning of CWCs and other stakeholders at grass-root level implementing agencies and discuss practical difficulties particularly relating to Nagaland in matters like adoption, handling of cases pertaining to child in need of care and protection.  

The Society Director (State Child Protection Society) & Joint Director Social Welfare, Chubainla Jamir emphasized on importance of proper documentation during their tenure so that records may be maintained. As per JJ Act the CWCs are to inspect the child care Institutions at least two times in a month to oversee the running of the children in a children home. CWC is to monitor the admission and discharging of the children in the child care Institutions as well as entry and disposal of a child on the track child portal.  

Legal cum Probation Officers Dimapur and Kohima, Moajungla and Megoneituo Kielienyu spoke on POCSO Act and JJ ACT.  

The CWCs present shared their experiences and the challenges faced in their particular districts. The Legal cum Probation Officers led the discussion on POCSO Act and JJ Act where they clarified the questions raised by the CWCs.
