Dimapur, December 10 (MExN): Supongnukshi IFS, Chief Conservator of Forest (Department of Environment, Forest and Climate Change) and State Nodal Officer for Climate Change and Dr. Atoho Jakhalu, Director of Research, Climate Studies and knowledge Solution Centre, (Department of Science and Technology), Government of Nagaland presented Nagaland's initiatives as well as innovation of Hydroger that is contributing towards the global climate discourse in the ongoing United Nations Climate Conference in Katowice, Poland.
Dr. Atoho Jakhalu in a press release stated that it is historic being Nagaland's first ever participation in such a global climate event and a significant step towards being a part of the global discourse on climate and environment issues.
The innovations were presented at the India pavilion, COP 24 which underwent a prior stringent review process at the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, New Delhi.
The current climate debate centers around the challenge to keep temperatures below the 1.5°C target that could possibly trigger catastrophic impacts of climate change. More than the technological innovations that needs to be addressed, the greater need lies in a balanced mix of sound policies and a strong political will to implement them.
In light to this challenge, more than 20,000 delegates comprising of scientists, politicians, policy makers from around the world is taking part in perhaps the most significant United Nations Climate Conference since the landmark gathering that resulted in the Paris Agreement in 2015.
