Out of 19, 78, 502 people living in the state, 9,74, 122 have recorded themselves as workers, according to Nagaland 2011 census.
The figure signified 49.2% of the people work in Nagaland and the rest are dependent on them. Out of the total workers in the state, 5,47,357 (56%) are men and 4,26,765 (44%) are women.
Out of the total workers, 55.2% are cultivators, 36% are other workers (service, business etc), 6.46% as agricultural labourers and 2.34% engaged in household industry.
Out of the total workers in the state, 70.08% are engaged as main workers and 23.91% as marginal workers.
12 villages in Nagaland have 100% of the total workers engaged in cultivation, out of which five villages fall under Wokha district and the rest spread over seven districts in Nagaland. Dimapur has less than 20% of its workers working as cultivators.
Zunheboto has the highest percentage of agricultural labourers with 15.04% of the total workers engaged in the same. The percentage is below 10% in the rest of the districts.
Peren district has the highest number of women workers with 64% of its female population recorded as workers. Tuensang district has the highest number of women cultivators with 84.9% of its women workers engaged in cultivation.
Out of 1400 inhabited villages, 1088 or 78% of the villages have more than 50% of its total workers engaged in cultivation.
