Nagaland Deputy CM shares concerns on Indo-Myanmar Border fencing with Mizoram CM

Aizawl, January 9 (MExN): Drawing parallels between Mizoram and Nagaland, Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton has reportedly noted that like Mizos, a significant Naga population has resided within Myanmar from time immemorial.

Given this shared cross-border demographic, Patton firmly stated that any resolution regarding Indo-Myanmar border fencing would be “unacceptable for Nagas,” informed press release from DIPR Mizoram regarding the Deputy CM’s visit to Mizoram Chief Minister Pu Lalduhoma on January 8.

During the visit Patton also congratulated Lalduhoma on his recent landslide victory in the state Assembly Election and wished for a successful tenure.
As per the DIPR, he also highlighted the ‘shared ancestry’ of Nagas and Mizos and underscored that the Chief Minister of Mizoram is “regarded as their own.”

Pointing out the close relationship between the two states, he mentioned the significant presence of Mizos in key administrative positions in Nagaland, it added. Patton also invited Lalduhoma to visit Nagaland at his convenience.

It must be noted that a press release from the Deputy CM office on January 8 to local media informed of the visit but did not elucidate on the details. It simply termed the meeting as “productive” with a discussion on “several issues of mutual interest.”
