Nagaland DGP urged to address “grievances”

NEW DELHI, JANUARY 2: The Non Commission Officials (NCOs), Jawans and NCEs (i.e. Havildar, Naik, LiNaik, Constable) of the 5th Nagaland Armed Police Battalion, posted at Delhi, have written to the Nagaland Director General of Police, apprising him of certain “deprivation of entitlements.”

The letter, dated January 2, 2014, stated that the Travel Allowance for NCOS, Jawans and NCEs of the 5th NAP battalion, posted in Delhi for the past six months “is very less in comparison with the other NAP battalions posted in Delhi.” It added that ‘City Allowance’ paid to the NCOs, Jawans and NCEs of the aforementioned battalion was also less.

It informed that the salaries for the aforementioned officials were “never given on time” and that the “rations provided were of poor quality and insufficient.” The letter added that the NACP for NCOs and Jawans for the 5th NAP battalion in Delhi has not been taken up for the last three years.

Citing “ill treatment,” the letter further requested the Nagaland state DGP to transfer the Deputy Commandant (Quarter Master), 5th NAP Battalion, Phek at the earliest.

It urged that an IPS Officer (Commandant) be posted to the NAP, Delhi in order to look after the welfare of Jawans, stating that the “responsibilities and working system in a metropolitan city is very different than Nagaland state affairs.”

It further called upon the DGP to take note of the grievances and to act on them on an “urgent basis in order to avoid further complications in the future.” The letter was appended by sixty six personnel of the 5th NAP battalion posted in Delhi.
