Dimapur, February 10 (MExN): The District Legal Services Authorities (DLSAs) of Nagaland as part of the action plan conducted visitation and orientation programmes in their respective districts.
Dimapur: Dimapur District Legal Services Authority (DDLSA) visited Wondangki Charitable Foundation for Girl Child at fellowship colony in Dimapur on February 9. Ajongba Imchen, Secretary DDLSA and CJM gave an introduction to legal services authority and explained the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The DDLSA also provided gifts and refreshment, and legal consultation. Altogether, 21 girls from Wondangki attended the programme.
Mon: A press release from Nagaland State Legal Services Authority further informed that Mon District Legal Services Authority (MDLSA) visited district jail, Mon and conducted legal awareness with the inmates on January 30.
Thavaseelan K, IAS, Deputy Commissioner of Mon exhorted undertrial prisoners (UTPs) while attending UTRC meeting and assured to provide volleyball and net. He also assured to facilitate other skill activities to enable UTPs to learn and be benefited once they are out from jail. The Deputy Commissioner encouraged the prisoners to use their time in jail wisely.
Delivering keynote address, Neiko Kanuo, District & Sessions Judge cum Chairman Mon DLSA highlighted court based legal aid and importance of legal services authority.
N Mannon, Retainer Lawyer spoke on the topic ‘rights of arrest persons’ and M Moba, Panel Lawyer spoke on the topic ‘reformation and counseling’ followed by interaction with prisoners.
Wokha: Wokha District Legal Services Authority (WDLSA) visited district jail, Wokha on January 25. The members held a short programme and interaction with the inmates. Seyielenuo Mezhu, Secretary WDLSA and JMFC delivered the keynote address, Sorosi Yimchunger, SDPO Wokha delivered short speech, while Gracy Ezung, Retainer Lawyer and Renbonthung Tsanglao, Panel Lawyer highlighted on rights of the prisoners and activities of WDLSA.
David Ezung, Panel Lawyer, Shanchobeni P. Lotha, Panel Lawyer, Wobenthung Patton Superintendent, Observation Home, Yarenthung, Superintendent District Jail, Mhandemo, Assistant Jailor, Para Legal Volunteers and other jail officials were also present.
Peren: Peren District Legal Services Authority (PDLSA) visited district jail and children’s home on January 24. The members led by Somet Chang, Secretary PDLSA and CJM held an interaction with the inmates.
Mokokchung: Panel Lawyers and PLVs of Mokokchung District Legal Services Authority (MDLSA) visited Legal Services Clinics at Kubolong, Changtongya, Ungma and Fazl Ali College on January 30. KDLSA: Kohima DLSA also visited Legal Services Clinic Kohima College and Sazolie College on January 25.
Orientation programmes
Kiphire District Legal Services Authority (KDLSA) held an orientation programme at the front office of KDLSA on January 15. Mezivolu T. Therieh, CJM and Secretary KDLSA briefed the Panel Lawyers and PLVs on the orientation programme. Panel Lawyers and PLVs shared their experiences and suggestion on how best the KDLSA can work for the welfare of the people in the district.
Mokokchung DLSA also conducted an orientation programme with Panel Lawyers and PLVs on January 17. Meanwhile, Dimapur DLSA held an orientation programme for Panel Lawyers and PLVs led by Secretary DDLSA on January 31. Kohima DLSA held orientation on January 23 led by its Secretary.
