Mokokchung, April 19 (MExN): The Nagaland Downhill Championship – a mountain bike racing event – is scheduled to be held on May 2 at Chuchuyimpang Village in Mokokchung District. According to a press release from the Trail Hounds Cycling Club, the 2-km long Downhill race will feature 90% single track, some drops, jumps and steep inclines. Competitors from Nagaland will battle it out with the winner being crowned as the “Fastest Naga”. One of the most exciting and spectacular formats of cycling, the Downhill race will push the skill and fitness of riders to the very limits as they tackle through steep, rough terrain with jumps, drops, rock gardens and other obstacles. According to the Trail Hounds Cycling Club, this will also be the first time in the history of Nagaland Mountain Biking where Riders will be ranked according to their performances. This is being done “mainly to create a sense of competition among themselves, motivate and reward them”, the club stated. The event will coincide with the biggest festival of the Ao-Naga Tribe, the Moatsu–Mong and Club is hopeful that participants will not only get to race “but also get a taste of our rich cultural festival”. Registration fee for the championship is set at Rs. 1000 to be paid on the reporting day i.e., May 1.
