Dimapur, July 5 (MExN): Deputy Chief Minister and Minister incharge for Home, Y Patton on July 5 rewarded the five Nagaland Police Escort personnel attached to him for their alacrity in intercepting a truck involved in a hit and run case.
The Dy CM acknowledged them with an award of Rs 20,000 each as token of appreciation and is learnt to have instructed the department to give befitting recognition for their exemplary action, stated a DIPR report.
It may be recalled that on July 2, a truck rammed into an EECO taxi near ICAR under ADC Medziphema sub Division and fled the spot. The accident resulted in the death of five persons and causing grievous injuries to three others.
Upon reaching the site of accident, the alert Escort party who were on their way to Kohima after dropping the Dy CM at the Airport turned back and chased down the truck after a hot pursuit, risking their own lives and apprehended the truck driver.
“Patton lauded the police personnel for showing extraordinary courage and presence of mind even videotaping the whole episode,” the report stated.
He further encouraged the policemen and women to be ever ready to the extent of taking initiatives beyond their call of duty when situation demands.
