Nagaland: E-Roll Officer reviews ongoing Special Summary Revision

Tuensang, November 24 (MExN): The designated Electoral Roll Observer (ERO) for Tuensang, Noklak, and Shamator, Mohammed Ali Shihab A, IAS, Secretary to the Government of Nagaland conducted a visit to Tuensang district on November 20 and 21, focusing on the Photo Electoral Roll.

On November 21, a meeting convened at the DC’s conference hall, Tuensang was attended by key officials, political representatives and stakeholders stated a DIPR report.

During the meeting, the ERO briefed all political parties on the significance of various forms such as 6B, 6, 7, & 8 and emphasised the importance of linking Aadhaar with the Electors Photo Identity Card (EPIC). He reiterated the necessity for timely submission of claims and objections, in accordance with the guidelines set by the Election Commission of India. Additionally, he urged the parties to ensure the removal of deceased and relocated voters from the Electoral Roll.

The ERO also encouraged the political parties to appoint Booth Level Agents (BLAs) at every polling station. These agents play a crucial role in assisting and guiding eligible citizens through the application process for inclusion, modification, and transposition of entries in the Electoral Roll. He highlighted the four qualification dates: January 1, April 1, July 1, and October 1.

During the meeting, Lithrongla Tongpi Rutsa, DC & DEO Tuensang, called upon all attendees to cooperate for the successful conduct of the Special Summary Revision of the Electoral Roll in 2024. 

The ERO also visited two polling stations from each constituency under Tuensang district, covering the 51 Noksen Assembly Constituency, 52 Longkim & Chare Assembly Constituency, 53 Tuensang Sadar 1, and 54 Tuensang Sadar 2.

Noklak: Mohammed Ali Shihab A, IAS and designated ERO for Tuensang, Noklak, and Shamator districts visited Noklak district on November 22, to assess the progress of the ongoing Special Summary Revision of the Electoral Roll in the district. 

Chairing a comprehensive review meeting at the DC conference hall, Shihab was joined by the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO), Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs), Supervisors, the staff of the District Electoral Office (DEO), Booth Level Officers (BLOs), representatives from various political parties, and Booth Level Agents (BLAs), a DIPR report stated.

Following the review meeting, administrative officers accompanied the ERO on visits to Polling Stations, including PS no 28 (Noklak Village C), PS no 30 (Noklak HQ) under the 56th Noklak Assembly Constituency, and PS no 1 (Tsuwao), PS no 6 (Lengnyu) under the 57th Thonoknyu Assembly Constituency.

Shamator: Mohammed Ali Shihab A, IAS also visited Shamator district on November 23 to review progress of the ongoing Special Summary Revision of Electoral Roll in the district.

Chairing a comprehensive review meeting which was held at DC Conference Hall Shamator, Electoral Roll Observer was joined by Deputy Commissioner & District Election Officer, Electoral Registration Officer (ERO), Assistant Electoral Registration Officer (AERO), Supervisors, Booth Level Officers (BLOs), representatives of different political parties and Booth Level Agents (BLAs). Wherein, the E-Roll Observer highlighted the process of Special Summary Revision w.r.t 01.01.2024 as the qualifying date and also expressed that eligible and genuine voters should not be left out.

Following the review meeting, administrative officers accompanied the Electoral Roll Observer on visits to Polling Stations no. 7 (Shamator HQ ‘A’) and PS no. 8 (Shamator HQ ‘B’) under the 58 Shamator-Chessore Assembly Constituency.

Phek: KS Anden Konyak, IAS, Commissioner & Secretary of Department of Urban Development & Agency (DUDA) and the designated ERO for Phek district, presided over a meeting on the Special Summary Revision of Electoral Rolls. A DIPR report stated that the meeting was held at DC’s conference hall, Phek on November 22. 

Addressing the attendees, the ERO emphasised the Election Commission's serious consideration of the current revision of the Electoral Roll. He urged political parties to collaborate with election officials, highlighting the importance of their cooperation in all election-related activities. 

The Observer stressed the significance of appointing Booth Level Agents (BLAs) by political parties and encouraged them to support Booth Level Officers (BLOs) during the verification of electors. Additionally, he called upon all concerned officials to exert sincere efforts in removing deceased voters to maintain a clean and healthy Electoral Roll. He urged ethical conduct, envisioning the district as a role model for others. 

The meeting, chaired by DC&DEO Phek, Kuko Mero, NCS, was attended by Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs) from five Assembly Constituencies in the district, Supervisors of BLOs, Administrative Officers, BLOs, and representatives from various political parties.
